Installing Teleport
Install the Teleport extension in Chrome from the zip download, pin it, and keep it up to date.
Teleport is coming soon to the Chrome Web Store. Until it's listed, you install it from a zip file. It takes about 2 minutes.
Before you start#
- You need Google Chrome on a desktop computer.
- You'll keep a folder on your computer that Chrome loads Teleport from. Pick somewhere you won't clean up by accident, such as
Documents/Teleport.
Install from the zip#
- Go to the download page and click Download the zip.
- Unzip it into the folder you picked. The folder should contain a file named
manifest.json. - In Chrome, type
chrome://extensionsin the address bar and press Enter. - Switch on Developer mode in the top right corner.
- Click Load unpacked and choose the folder that contains
manifest.json. - Teleport's welcome page opens in a new tab. Create your free account (Google or email and password), then continue with account and onboarding.
Tip: click the puzzle icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin Teleport. The popup shows the job on the current page, your profile strength, and your recently saved jobs.
What Chrome shows during install#
Chrome lists what the extension can do. Because Teleport's content script runs on the pages you visit to detect job postings, Chrome says it can read and change data on websites. The detection runs on your device. Permissions explained covers every permission and when it's used.
Updating#
Extensions installed from a zip don't update on their own.
- Download the latest zip from the download page.
- Replace the files in your Teleport folder with the new ones.
- Open
chrome://extensionsand click the reload icon on Teleport's card.
Your profile, saved jobs and settings are kept, because they live in Chrome's extension storage, not in the folder.
Don't remove Teleport from chrome://extensions to update it. Removing an extension deletes its local storage, including your profile and saved jobs. Export your data first if you ever need to reinstall. See export and delete.
Uninstalling#
Open chrome://extensions and click Remove on Teleport's card. This deletes everything Teleport stored in your browser. If you turned on sync, delete your cloud data first from Privacy & data, or it stays in Teleport cloud until you do.
