Permissions explained

What Teleport asks Chrome for at install, what it asks for later, and why.

Teleport asks for as little as it can at install and requests everything else one site at a time, only when a feature needs it.

At install#

PermissionWhy
storageKeeps your profile, resume text, saved jobs, settings and tool history in your browser's local extension storage.
alarmsWakes Teleport every few minutes to sync changes from the web app and your other browsers. Chrome doesn't show a warning for it.
identityOpens Google's sign-in window when you click Continue with Google. Teleport gets your email and a Google account ID, never your Google password. It also opens LinkedIn's sign-in window when you click Connect LinkedIn. It isn't used for anything else.
Content script on http and https pagesLooks at the page you're on to decide whether it's a job posting, then shows the Add to Teleport button and your fit score. This analysis runs on your device.

Because of the content script, Chrome describes Teleport as able to read and change data on the websites you visit. Teleport doesn't send page content anywhere unless you take an action, such as saving a job (saved to your account) or analyzing it with your own AI key.

Teleport doesn't ask for your browsing history, cookies or bookmarks.

Requested later, one site at a time#

These use Chrome's optional host permissions. Chrome shows a prompt, and you can say no.

FeatureSite requestedWhen
AI engineYour AI provider's API, for example https://api.openai.comWhen you save AI settings with the engine on
Company insightswww.wikidata.org, en.wikipedia.org, news.google.com, boards-api.greenhouse.io, api.lever.co, api.ashbyhq.comThe first time you click Allow and load
Company website descriptionThat company's own siteOnly if you grant it, and only if its robots.txt allows it

Syncing and signing in don't need a prompt: the Teleport server at https://teleportjobs.app accepts requests from the official Teleport extension only.

If you decline a prompt, Teleport keeps working without that feature. For example, declining the AI permission keeps the local fit engine.

Turning Teleport off on a site#

Open the toolbar popup on that site and clear the Teleport on checkbox for it. It applies right away. You can re-enable sites from Settings → Sites where Teleport is off in the dashboard.

Removing granted permissions#

Open chrome://extensions, click Details on Teleport, and review Site access and the list of allowed sites. Removing a site there means the related feature asks again next time.
